An Existential Approach
The Paradox Coaching approach is grounded in an existential philosophical and psychological framework rooted in what it means to be human. It’s not about shortcuts or quick fixes—though we’ll identify small, practical tools when they’re helpful. Instead, it’s about embracing the challenges of living in a way that’s both realistic and empowering.
At its core, Paradox Coaching emphasizes themes like meaning, values, choice, and authenticity. Together, we’ll explore what it means to be you, how you want to live, and how we can plan a way forward that aligns with your vision—while honoring the unique challenges you face.

Brad Allen Johnson, PhD
I hold a PhD from the University of Kent, Canterbury, England, where my research in existential psychology examined the relationship between everyday routines and the existential functions of structure and personal value. Before pursuing my doctoral studies abroad, I earned a BA in Psychology with Highest Distinction from the University of Kansas.
My work explores how the routines and worldviews we carve out help us manage existential anxiety, providing a sense of stability and personal value. For a time, these structures can serve us well. But life happens: disruptions occur, and even our most familiar modes of being can falter, leaving us questioning who we are, what we’re doing, and what it all means.
As Carl Jung observed, “We cannot live the afternoon of life according to the program of life’s morning; for what was great in the morning will be little at evening, and what in the morning was true, at evening will have become a lie.” This insight highlights the necessity of reevaluating our values and assumptions as we navigate life’s inevitable transitions.

Here, Jung’s ideas resonate with my coaching approach: Paradox Coaching. Life’s transitions often challenge us to reevaluate our values, assumptions, and sense of purpose. Often, it is in embracing the paradoxes of life—freedom and responsibility, stability and change, comfort and growth—that we discover resilience and authenticity. My work is designed to help you grapple with life’s big questions and create an authentic path to existential resilience.
By embracing a positive yet realistic attitude, I help clients re-think their self-concept and ideas of happiness and success, shifting away from pre-conditioned modes of being to live a life that is authentically and meaningfully their own.
It won’t come easy, but I believe that living by choice rather than by default will empower you to: maximize your potential, build resilience, connect with a sense of meaning and purpose, make authentic decisions, resolve inner and outer conflicts, and feel more present and fulfilled in both your personal and professional life.
